What is AtoM?
AtoM (Access to Memory) is an open-source, web-based software designed for archival description and dissemination in accordance with the standards of the International Council on Archives (ICA).
The Archivos de Navarra website was built with this specialized software, creating a single platform shared by multiple municipalities.
Its main advantage is that it allows searches both within each archive individually and across the entire platform, which multiplies the results obtained. Furthermore, searches are more efficient because all resources are described using a common criterion, aligned with international archival standards.
What can I find on this website?
This space displays the documents that each municipality has digitalized for preservation and public access: historical documents, photographs, videos, and other resources organized and described according to international archival standards. This procedure guarantees their preservation and facilitates their discovery, both now and in the future, also on other platforms that use the same standards.
How can I search for information?
On the main page, you will find a general search box. From there, you can locate information throughout the platform. You also have several ways to explore the content:
Documents → search across all the platform's holdings
Authorities → direct access to the individuals, families, or entities that produced the documentation.
Institutions → list of archives and institutions participating in the platform.
Subjects → search by specific topic.
Places → browse by geographic location.
Digital Objects → direct access to documents that have already been digitalized.
The search can be:
General → from the main box.
Advanced → by dropping down the arrow on the right. This option allows you to narrow the results by criteria such as dates, keywords, or type of description.
The results are always displayed among all the files on the platform, but you can also:
● Go directly to a municipality's archive and view its documents.
● Explore the list of associated digital objects.
● Review the Classification Table, which hierarchically presents the set of documents in the municipal archive and their internal organization.
What is the clipboard?
It's a tool that allows you to temporarily save the documents you're interested in while you browse the platform. It works like a personal folder within your session: every time you click the "add to clipboard" icon, that document will be saved for you. This way, you can gather the results you want to review in one place, compare them, or download them later.
If you're not familiar with some archival terms, here's a simple glossary that can help you navigate the platform.Basic Glossary
